I have the book you mention and a few others. I am more interested in the individual
interpretations. We all know that reading a standard and looking at the flesh and
blood animal can be quite divergent.
That said:
I have been involved with pure bred dogs for 30+ years. Starting with GSD and now have
Australian Shepherds, 20 years, and Cavaliers for the past 6. I compete in obedience
confromation agility and dable at herding. I teach all levels of obedience including
the difficult dog classes plus do behaviour problem solving. As well own/operate an
all breed dog and cat grooming shop. I am on the board of several clubs and do
committee work. I also judge obedience for ASCA, all levels.
If you want to talk structure. I can say that on the whole the cavaliers have poor
rears. One rarely sees a nice rear that is straight, hip to foot and clean moving.
Fronts are better with fewer dogs showing loaded shoulders or out at the elbows.
Fronts often have nice shoulder lay back.
I know we all want to breed perfect dogs, but, the facts are there are no perfect
dogs. The quality of dogs in GB is possibly higher over all then in Canada or the US.
It should be as the breed was founded there. Still.
A dog who weighs 16# and is 13" is wonderful, if the dog has the structure and breed
type to go with this. But what if the dog is a poor looking specimen, roach backed and
cow hocked but has a lovely head. COmpared to a much larger dog with correct structure
and a poor head.
How much white is a small amount????? on a whole colour.
Is a white chin a sin. Does age come in to condieration?
