Hi -
Ok, time to speak up. I am part of the 5 person committee that reviews
and approves Affix's. Relative to Katy's comments, the committee does
not go on subjective "likes and dislikes". There are procedures in
place and the Affix Application comes with 2 pages of instructions.
Several people on the committee have been in the CKCSC over ten years.
We are very careful to research the CKCSC, USA, Inc. list, the Kennel
Club of Great Britain list and our own Dog Data Base to see if that
"word" has ever been used in the naming of a dog. We ask the person
themselves to investigate the AKC and the Canadian Club if they wish to.
We try very hard to grant peoples first choices but often times they
request very common words that already have been tried or have been used
in a dogs name. Once an affix is granted, it can never be used by
anyone in naming their dog. I have already emailed Sandra privately
that if DARKSTAR was submitted (as printed), it has a good chance of
being approved, and she can letter it any way she wants on her business
card! Soon, all of this information and the instructions will be up on
the CKCSC web site for anyone who has questions.
