I am probably going to make myself unpopular here but I think this is a lot
of baloney!
Whats wrong with simply going and doing some more basic obedience at
whatever local training club they have available, using positive
reinforcement and trying some clicker training.
Sounds to me like the dog is firmly in control of the people when it should
be the other way around!
