Greetings List Members...
Well my most embarrassing moment...
I had moved to the midwest to teach at a leading university and the long
time local CKCS breeders asked me when I was going to show my dogs myself.
I told them I always had friends or junior handlers show my CKCSs.
After a
wonderful lunch they said "come on you can do it"...so here is my story...
I arrived at the show ready to go...wearing a designer suit purchased while
in Toronto with my beautiful CKCS in my arms...this dog only needed one
point. This CKCS had three majors and is an outstanding beauty. It came
time to go into the ring...my mouth went dry, my heart started racing
and I
went blind for a second...I started to move with the crowd...very happy
that I was starting to move at the speed of my dog best movement. Well I
forgot to look up and almost ran over the line-up. Everyone stop to
reassure me and I wanted the floor to open up. Next came my turn to table
the dog... I went on the wrong side of the table. At the end of the show
..one of the breeder who has an ascent recommended mink oil to put in some
shine in a CKCS coat. I misunderstood and did not realize that it needed
to be shampoo out...
The next day I arrived with my dog looking like an oil spill victim...I
went around the ring leaving an oil slick behind us...I am surprise the EPA
was not called for an emergency clean up. After I was done...one of the
long time CKCS breeders asked me over to her home for a glass of wine but
really it was for grooming and showing tips. I said to her over that glass
of much needed wine..why didn't you tell me that the dog looked so bad.
She said because you were so brave in coming back after yesterday...I
wanted you to get back in that ring. I asked I wonder what that judge
thought...she said probably "the dog is better than the owner"...LOL They
had a good story to tell my dear friends at ACKCSC National.
Good news I am improving...and my CKCSs win in spite of me...
On a side note...I have been a keynote speaker in front of 160 member
audience but nothing has scared me like being in that ring!
