Although I'm a newbie in Cavalier's, I bred, trained and exhibited boxers
for nearly 20 years. I always registered each puppy in my litter in my
name. When the registration papers were returned to me I would forward them
to the new owner with instructions to submit the transfer to the AKC. If
they never got around to it, at least the puppy was registered and in my
name. Before the limited registration papers came out, I would withhold the
registration papers for "pets" and only give the pedigree. And I always
made it very clear that if they should breed their "unregistered" or
"limited registered" dog, it's puppies would be of no value. They could not
be sold as "registered" boxers. It worked quite well for me. However, I
only bred 6 litters in 15 years, so my experience is limited.
