Gordon,

I am so sorry Cyber is having this problem. I hope he doesn't ever need
surgery, but if he does here is some good information from Dr. Jory Olsen, a
board certified veterinary internist in Atlanta. I kept this info from him
"just in case."

"I am an internist but have lots of exposure to surgeons and orthopedists.
Many would do both knees at the same time without any concern. The dogs
recover better than going through two separate surgeries and having the pain,
anesthesia, and recovery twice. There is also a growing amount of
information to say that early activity (controlled) is important and
prolonged restriction from activity is a negative. Talk to a physical
therapist. Make sure that the best surgery is done. Most dogs with surgery
over 5 years ago had rasping of the groove that promotes later arthritic
changes and now the best surgeons are using a trochlear groove recession
surgery that maintains the articular surface intact."
