One of our Cavaliers has a bum knee. Cyber is 6 and has a medial
luxating patella. Given the degree of knee sensitivity the vet
says it is possible there is some ACL damage also. Our vet has
prescribed rest and aspirin so that the irritation can subside.
Then he wants to check the knee again to evaluate the ACL issue.
Cyber is not over weight; he is average height and weighs 15.5
pounds.

Cybers symptoms seem odd, but they are consistent. He can (and
does darn it) stand on his rear legs to beg for dinner, treats,
to greet people, etc. He can and does leap on to the porch with
a running start - this is a 26 inch height. If he attempts to
jump on a chair, couch, bed, (20 inch height) etc. without a
running start he is in obvious discomfort and yelps. Sometimes
this lasts for a second or two, sometimes for 30 to 60 seconds.
He may end up on the floor or be half way up with his front paws
on the chair, bed, etc. There does not seem to be any lameness
and I don't detect the pain/discomfort continues after the
yelping stops.

I am interested in getting information on two items regarding
Cybers knee.

#1 How common is this discomfort or pain Cyber has with
luxating patellas?

#2 If anyone has had a small dog who had an ACL problem,
particularly with a patella problem, I would appreciate being
contacted privately.

Thank you and have a nice day.
