I totally agree with you - this was exactly my point.!
 I have a great friend who bred pedigree Blue faced Leicester sheep and
showed them very successfully. They crossed them with one of the Lakeland
breeds to produce "mules" - these were very much sort after by farmers in
the south to cross again with if I remember correctly Sussex or Suffolk
sheep. The difference in construction of each cross was obvious to see plus
the hardiness of the sheep was improved as the Blue faced hated wet weather.
Long may we continue to be open minded and willing to learn VBG I'll say no
more!
