I cannot comment on how glucosomine and chondroitin might affect dogs but I can give
you the human perspective. My husband has severe arthritis. When I heard about this
treatment several years ago I mentioned it to him and sent away for books on the
subject. Then he decided to try the treatment. The articles suggested that the results
would not be immediate but would take several weeks / months to become effective.
After having taken them for four months , my husband was not sure that there had been
any change so he decided to stop them. That is when he noticed the difference. The
improvements had been gradual and barely noticeable but the decline in mobility and
increase in pain became apparent very soon after discontinuing their use.
It does not stop the arthritic process but it does seem to slow it up and help to
diminish the discomfort. My husband takes 500 mg/twice daily. For a small dog I would
assume the dosage could be quite a bit less.
