Hello to All, I want to thank all of you again for your wonderful support during the loss of my Susie. It has been such a help to our family to know there are other people who care so deeply about their pets and can understand the grief one goes through when something like this happens.
The babies are 6 weeks old now and are so wonderful. I have just placed them on Best in Show Puppy/Toy food. They love it and eat it like it was steak. I am concerned because I have read so much on the list about putting puppies on puppy food. What do you think about this food? I am going to reorder and I am wondering if I should order this food again or just an adult food. I will not keep them on this food but will move them back to my natural diet when they are a little older. This may seem strange but puppies don't seem to adjust to the raw diet that I feed when they are very young. I would appreciate any advice regarding this food. I want to share something else about Susie's litter that I did not cover before when talking about the puppies. When Marilyn Mayfield talked about using incubators this summer for some reason I felt I needed to order one just in case I ever needed it. Susie's last litter had 6 puppies and she took fine care of them with no problems. I did not know at the time that she would have 8 puppies and need a c-section. I was very thankful when she had her 8 puppies that I had ordered the incubator. When we got home on the night of the c-section I felt she did not need to try to handle 8 puppies at one time so I gave her 4 and put 4 in the incubator. Susie was on the Whelping Nest with 4 of her babies and 4 were in the incubator. She was happy and I was happy because I knew the 4 in the incubator would not get chilled or get under her. I knew she would be fine with 4. I did this for a couple of days until I felt she could handle all 8 of them. I am so thankful that I had the incubator. After Susie left to go to the Rainbow Bridge, I found that the puppies were happy when I put all of them in the incubator. They were warm and close together with lots of warm air surrounding them. They were very peaceful and contented. I used it for a couple of weeks. When they would eat and get milk all over them, I would dry them and put them in the incubator to finish drying. I bought the incubator thinking if I saved 1 puppy it would be worth the investment. I never dreamed I would need it to help me through the tragedy of loosing Susie. The puppies are so outgoing and they have accepted me as their mom. It has been a tough experience but need I say this litter will be one I will never forget!! I want to thank Marilyn for sharing the incubator with the list. If she had not I would never have ordered one even though they are made in Florida where I live. I have lost 2 little ones and did not want to have to go through that again if I could help it. With the incubator you can lay down and get some rest and not have to worry about one crawling out of the nest and getting chilled. I lost a little puppy who crawled out of the nest and mama did not get him back in time. I had laid down to get a nap and found him when I got up. This is the best insurance I could have found to help me with the puppies. Please forgive me for being so long but I just wanted to thank Marilyn for the information and let the rest of you know how wonderful the incubator has been for me. I am getting it cleaned and ready for Kallie's litter. She is Susie's daughter. I bred her the week that Susie was due. I am glad I did otherwise I might not have bred another litter for a long time. Being a breeder is not an easy job but again what could bring you more joy. As it has been said you can't enjoy the mountains unless you have been in the valley. Kallie's litter will help me to get back to the mountain. I will have Susie's grandchildren to love and carry on her wonderful legacy. Thanks again to all of you. This list is full of so many wonderful people who are willing to share their knowledge and experiences which help all of us to grow and learn.
