Not true.  The AKC doesn't care who owns the dog.

This is only true for the co-owned dog.  Since no judge can have a dog owned or 
co-owned by him shown at a show where he is officiating, then any dog with that 
judge's name on it can't be shown.  But any other dog the co-owner owns (without the 
judge) certainly can be shown -- to a different judge.

In other words, if you co-own with a judge you cannot show to that judge (no big 
surprise there).  You can, however, show any other dog you own at that show to any 
other judge.

It isn't at all confusing, limiting or difficult!  It has nothing to do with family 
members!  It just isn't that complicated.  Rather, it's quite simple and 
straightforward.  A judge can't have a dog exhibited at a show in which he's 
officiating, and you can't show to your co-owner judge.
