I recently took my 4-mo old CKCS to his first show handling class. Someone
there wanted to know how long I waited to purchase him. She has a friend
who has been on a breeder's waiting list for over a year, waiting for a show
quality dog. I found the puppy I wanted from the first breeder I saw. How
did I find my "perfect" puppy? I searched the internet for CKCS breeders,
then narrowed the list down to my immediate area as I would not buy a puppy
sight unseen. The breeder I contacted had no puppies at this time and
referred me to the breeder I bought my puppy from. I wanted a show prospect
and although the breeder had a waiting list for "pets" she did have some
very nice show prospects. The quality of her adult dogs and puppies, their
healthy outgoing appearance, along with her knowledge convinced me that this
was the breeder I wanted to buy from. I got a wonderful happy, healthy
puppy that is a promising show prospect and I didn't have to wait! The more
I read on this list and the more I talk to local breeders and exhibitors,
the more I find out just how lucky I am. And this is because there is at
least one well-known, breeder/exhibitor in my area who was generous enough
to refer me to another lesser known breeder.
