We got great news today at the vet! Dinah's red blood cells were up to 37%!
They were 35% in June, which was normal, so this is terrific! The treatment
seems to be working.

My vet did speak with Dr. Dodds this week for quite a while, she said. Dr.
Dodds agreed with everything that she was doing, and just had one other idea.
She said that sometimes in older Cavaliers with advanced MVD, and the blood
flow just isn't right, it's like it hits a brick wall and can't get around
properly. I'm not sure I'm saying this right. I should have written this
down, but I was so happy with the news that I wasn't thinking. She said that
could be killing some of the red blood cells. She thought this could be
happening in combination with one or more of the other things that we're
treating for.

She said that she would have given antibiotics for tic-borne diseases (even
though titers were negative) and possible dental infection, as well as
prednisone and Imuran for possible IMHA, just as my vet is doing. She, like
my vet, is not sure that Dinah really has IMHA, but the Coombs test is rarely
a false positive. She does not think that the rabies vaccine had anything to
do with this. She said that if it did, she thought her red blood cells would
be much lower than they were after 3 months. That's what my vet thought,
too, but I was not sure about that. I'm glad she got to discuss that with
her. She thinks the Anipryl could possibly have contributed, and since I
quit that and her red blood cells went up, I wonder about that too. This is
not a known side affect to Anipryl, but it could be one that has not been
noted yet. We'll never know exactly what happened I guess.

Anyway, I am just thrilled with the results, and I start cutting the
prednisone back today but not the Imuran yet. I am again feeling like Dinah
will reach her 13th birthday in January. I appreciate everyone who responded
to my questions about IMHA earlier.
