Chere,
Just to let you know what happened. When one of my cavaliers got the combo
vaccine (no lepto) plus his first rabies on the same day. He appeared fine
for a few hours. He was young, whatever the normal age would be when they
get the first rabies shot?

A few hours later he began to walk away from me and just began screaming, it
wasn't a yelp, it was a continuous scream like he was hurt. I picked him up
it made it worse... I called the E.R. (vet) and emailed a couple friends on
the list and the consensus was he had "too much" at one time and to let it
run it's course as long as he wasn't vomiting or diarrhea etc. He didnt
appear to have any abscess at the inj. site, nothing like that. When he
would stop yelping, I couldnt touch him anywhere. It was as if his whole body
hurt, his skin, ears tail you name it. He would crawl into my lap and try to
get comfortable and i couldnt move. This went on for almost 3 days. I sat
with him, and it got a tiny bit better each day.

I dont know how much of that was pain, and how much was emotion or drama! I
have to go along as if there is something wrong because i cant know for sure
what happened. That was the last time he was vaccinated and he wont get
annual vaccines, he'll be on a different schedule that my vet has. Every
couple yrs. and 3 yrs apart for rabies. (and not near the same time) I still
think he had a "pain" reaction and not a reaction like an allergy but i cant
say for sure what happened. He also did a similar thing when microchipped..

My 3 yr old Darby has a "physical" reaction to shots. Bloddy diarrhea for
days. He only gets rabies every 3 years now. He doesnt complain and never
cried not even when chipped. So some of their difference can be their pain
tolerance levels! :)

I have spoken to Dr. Dodds and she was quite helpful in going over vaccine
schedules for them...
