Nor do I believe that MVD will go away in cavaliers. However, a breeder can make a committment to test and to eliminate affected dogs from their breeding programs. Same with hips, eyes and patellae. Even with the most careful breeding, those problems will crop up from time to time simply because that is the nature of all things genetic. When someone calls me and tells me that a puppy that I have produced is unable to breathe and is dying of heart failure, at least I can know that I did everything in my power not to produce the problem.
