I can certainly see the benefit of doing that.  In fact, that would be the
piece of the puzzle that lets us weigh all of the factors in a breeding
program.  None of us want to produce ugly little cavaliers who live to be 25
years old, but neither should any of us be happy producing beautiful typey
dogs who do well in the show ring but are diagnosed with MVD, a terminal
disease after all, at five years old.  There is a middle ground to be found
here, and it involves giving a little bit on structure, and cosmetic issues,
while balancing out what you can accept healthwise on a dog you use for
breeding.  Do you eliminate the dog with retinal folds who comes from 7 year
old heart clear parents?  No reason to get flamed at all as long as you are
doing the best you can to produce sound, pretty little dogs with sweet
temperaments and a reasonably long life.     Myra Savant
