Well, you asked a lot of questions Peggy, and I don't mind trying to answer
them. I actually said we hoped to eliminate HD and bad patellae from our
particular lines, not from the breed itself. We were quite successful at
eliminating HD from our German Shepherd lines and I feel that we can repeat
that success with cavaliers. I also stated that when it comes to MVD, who
knows? No, we didn't buy all of our dogs after asking for certification. We
purchased puppies who went back into certain specific dogs who are known to
have remained heart clear for a longer period of time than usual.....Ace of
Base, Caption, Cherokee of Rossbonny, Reflection and Scandal. We have then
kept the dogs until they are old enough to test before breeding them. We have
purchased a few dogs here in the US as well. We have not kept all of the ones
who have flunked their health tests. We have placed three of them as pets after
neutering or spaying them. Although Pat and I are home all day long with our
dogs, I still never feel that I give them as much time as they deserve and I
feel okay with the fact that we have been able to place them in homes where they
get to be the only dog. It has been a hard decision, but a good one. I will
not be able to place my dogs as they age, but I don't regret placing the ones
who were young but not appropriate for our breeding program. It has been a
matter of purchasing, testing, keeping or placing while we try to establish a
foundation of healthy breeding stock. Myra Savant
