Claudia, it is just a general statement. There are always exceptions, but it
tends to be true more often than not. BTW Domino was still overdone as an
adult. I think that the "overdone" that we are talking about here is
actually a dog that carries both desirable genes in the gene loci that make
a difference in the puppies. For example, if there were a gene pair for
correct eyes, they would have both genes for correct eyes. (this is
simplified for clarity). This means that the dog would only have a desirable
gene to give to every offspring. Another term used for the overdone dog is
prepotent.

You sometimes find this happening with the dam, but not as often. Our first
Cavalier, Mary, always produced better than herself or the stud used, no
matter who the stud was. She wasn't so bad, she took a 4 point major (WB)
the first time she was shown and this was a CKCSC show in 1982. I have heard
of other prepotent dams and I believe that there has been several in
Cavaliers. Eng.Ch. Vairire Charmaine of Crisdig would be a good example.
