Hi Cindy:

Has her vet done a titer for tick born diseses. I believe it is
important to do the whole panel. Also, I am not sure where she lives but
down south I understand that if there is a certain species of tick still
embedded it can cause severe pain and paralysis eventually. Even if the
titers come up negative a three to four week course of doxycycline may be
worth a try. My friends ET bitch came down with Lymes disease 5 yrs ago.
All her tests were negative but her symptoms were screaming in pain when
touched or when she tried to move of eat . Her vet put her on Doxy and in
three days she seem somewhat better by a week she was walking and eating much
better. She was on the antibiotic for four weeks and never seemed to have a
problem since. My only guess is that it was very early and treated early.

I do not know what to say about the severe arthritis at this young age.
Maybe it is a joint inflammatory process rather than arthritic changes which
could come from a tick-born disease.
Hope this helps,
Tina Sterling
