To begin with, there are antibiotics that are once a day doses taken for
five days with a loading dose on day one. Zithromax comes to mind. I don't
know of, and have never administered an antibiotic that routinely required
dosing for 14 days. Some of the injectables require only three injections.
Additionally, there is a big difference between curing and rendering
non-contagious. Generally, an antibiotic is considered to have rendered the
patient to be non-contagious after 48-72 hours. When the stud dog owner
requires it, the goal is only to render the bitch to be non-contagious to
protect the stud dog from harmful organisms that might be living in the
vaginal canal. Since Baytril is the drug of choice for sexually transmitted
diseases, it would be a natural choice for the stud dog owner. The goal
here is not to cure a bitch of a disease. If she is known to have a
disease, most of us wouldn't be letting our boys breed to her anyhow. The
goal is to render the bitch to be non-contagious for non-specific organisms
that she might be harboring. Myra Savant
