The male is releasing millions of sperm with every ejaculation. The females carries only an x chromosome. (We all carry two, but we pass only one to each egg) The male carries the x chromosome and the y chromosome. If he passes the x, the puppy (or other mammal) is female (xx) If he passes the y chromosome, the puppy is male (xy) Males absolutely and unquestionably determine the sex of the offspring, and he ejaculates millions of sperm at a time compared to the amount of eggs that the female possesses. Additionally, the female is born carrying all of the eggs that she will possess in her entire lifetime. The males continue to manufacture them well into old age. Myra Savant
