Hi Suze and Cynthia, My one male Billy had missed on several bitches and he is not a dog you can collect from without a bitch in heat, so we didn't have any way of seeing if he had sperm. We started by culturing a slight discharge that he had and found an E-coli infection. The vet then did a pre and post prostetic wash and sent it for culturing. Routine bloodwork also showed a higher than normal white count. The result of the prostetic wash was an E-coli infection of the prostate that was sensitive to Batril. Billy was put on a double dose of Batril for 6 weeks and then taken off for three weeks. The prostetic wash was then repeated. The E-coli infection was gone, but he still had a very low grade bacterial infection, also sensitive to Batril. He was put back on Batril for 3 more weeks. Shortly after finishing the second run of Batril, I had a bitch in heat to use to get him to give us a sperm sample. He had plenty. In between the two runs of Batril he bred one of my bitches that is extremely hard to get in whelp. On Christmas morning she went into labor, since she had lost a single pup before, I took her to the Vet right a way. She was having plenty of contractions but the puppy was presenting herself sideways to the birth canal. The Vet quickly performed a C-section and I have a little Christmas Rose today. Any treatment for infertility should be on going for at least six months as it takes three months for new sperm to be manufactured. Also being sterile at 11/2 is not uncommon in Cavaliers. Immune system problems can cause this as well. I imported a lovely dog from England in 1994. He was 1 1/2 years old and had never been bred. He was sterile and later developed immune mediated seizures. Hope this helps. It's OK to pass this on to Cynthia. Cathy Chandler Patchwork Cavaliers ----- Original Message ----- From: "Susan A.
