Susan, It gets rid of the smell for me, and I assume it works for dogs, too, because Nick has not pottied in his crate again. I have also used it this way when I've had foster dogs who have pottied in their crate, and then used the same crate pads in my own dogs' crates, and they were fine with it. I just use a very small amount of Nature's Miracle in the washing machine. I haven't measured it, just squirted some in the machine--maybe a capful or less. Since it is soap, I'm afraid to use too much for fear of it causing too many bubbles in the machine!
