This Is Jolene Grabill. As many of you know I am a distributor of Greenies via my website, www.extraordinarypals.com. Greenies are a marvelous product which have brought joy to many dogs and therefore to their humans. Thanks, Liz, for mentioning them on the list. My website has many more details on the product. Anyone wanting to know more, please send me a personal message at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks and happy new year!
As to burying vs. eating, I have found this to be a very dog specific, not breed specific behavior. Greenies do seem to inspire unique behaviors, however. Here are a few we are aware of: - Duffy the pug, a neighbor and someone Lizzie and I frequently visit, insists on playing a game with himself and his greenie during warm weather. He takes it, makes a high-pitched squealing sound, as he goes out into the garden to "bury" it. When duly buried, he marches back up to sit with his humans for a while, then about ten minutes later runs furiously around the garden to see if he can find his greenie. When he finds it, he uncovers it and devours the Greenie. Duffy played this "game" over and over last summer. The indoor version is much shorter and simpler, he tries to bury it in the couch, leaves it for a second or two then devours, the Greenie. Oh yes, the squealing often occurs indoors as well. I consider it squealing with delight! - - Nelsie, a yellow lab, and Snoopers, a ruby cavalier, had perhaps the most interesting routine. Both dogs are routinely given Greenies at the same time, a large for Nelsie and a regular for Snoopers. Each dog takes their appropriately sized greenies with them to the opposite sides of the kitchen and sits down as if to begin enjoying their treat. When perfectly settled, the dogs glance up at each other and as if on cue, charge across the room to take the other dogs' Greenie. After this exchange, they settle back in to their own respective spaces and eat, Nelsie with the regular size and Snoopers with the large. This show went on regularly in the household. What fun! - - I've heard of one small dog pawing into her human's hiding place for greenies, ripping open the bag and stashing a few in each room of the house, just for safety's sake. - - My own Lizzie is very fond of carrying her bone around with her from room to room, up onto the couch and then off again, then when I least expect it, I'll notice she has the greenie vertical between her two front paws and is consuming it. Sometimes I wonder if she doesn't think of each Greenie like a comforting "blankie" that she always wants nearby to feel safe. - - Only twice in two years, have I been told of dogs swallowing part of a greenie without chewing. In BOTH CASES there was another dog present and it seemed the one swallowed quickly to insure the other did not get the bone. This food coveting - again - is dog specific. I know many multiple dog families who have no such problems. Thanks again, and may you all have a Happy and Cavalier New Year!
