What do you mean offer it to new buyers. I order chips from AVID and do all my puppies before eight weeks old so they are all done before they leave my house. When you order the chips they are automatically registered in your name. I give the puppy buyer the number but I DO NOT transfer the chip into their names. I want AVID to contact me and no one else if my puppy ends up in the shelter. This way if the person who bought the puppy ended up giving it to someone else and that person ended up not keeping the puppy and it ended up in the pound I would be notified.
If I do get a call all I have to do is look on my records to see who that number belonged to then contact the puppy buyer and ask if they are missing a dog. I sold two lovely puppies to a nice couple who werre friends of mine nine years ago. The dogs went to work with them every single day (they had their own business) They slept in the bed with them every night but for some reason when the dogs turned eight years old they ended up in pet rescue. I was able to get the dogs back and placed them with friends where they once again slept in the bed and were very much loved until they passed away. I just don't understand it. So yes a great idea and I am glad I thought of it and have been doing it for many years now.
