LOL.....your description reminds me of my first puppy delivery!!  It was 4
years ago and I was alone and a bit nervous.  Puppy number 1 came and
although she was quite big, mom had a relatively easy time popping her out.
Because the placenta was very slow to come , I attempted to clamp the
umbilical cord close to the placenta end.  Just as I was closing the clamp,
the puppy drew her little leg up and yup....I clamped one of her toes.  It
bled like a son of a gun and of course I was horrifed.  Needless to say it
took off her toe, quite nicely..<grin>.  I can chuckle about it today as it
was quite some time ago and you would never know that she is missing a
toe.....but when it happened, I called my husband to come home from work, as
I was convinced I was going to kill all these pups...LOL!!!

Like I said, some smoother deliveries later, I can laugh now :).
