Hi List Well, in spite of all the care the nursing staff could give her (and me twice a day) the postmortem done on my 13 week old tri bitch showed that she died from pneumonia as a result of vomit inhalation.
This in itself for her seems to have been a godsend, as her pancreas was completely ruined by infection. No trauma anywhere, nothing I had or hadn't done - just bacterial pancreatitis and a vet unable to give an explanation for it. The drug therapy given to her after surgery (which they thought initially was to remove a foreign body) had cleared her stomach and other organs, but had hardly touched the pancreatic infection. I've found it very hard losing a puppy at this age. I also find it very hard to believe that it wasn't the first vaccination that started all this off - she was given lepto and DHPPI at 10.5 weeks - and from now on have arranged with my vet that puppies will have a half dose vaccination of lepto only at 12 weeks, followed by a half dose of the two at 14 weeks, and titre levels checked thereafter. Grim, I think, is the only word for it! But luckily I have a litter sister here who is fine, as are all her littermates in new homes and the other pups here.
