My feeling on this subject that unless it is written in the breed standard
(which for some breeds it is) that there must be dewclaws, I would think
removing them shortly after birth would be the route to go.

The front dewclaw issue has brought up an interesting point that I am going
to bring up on the Briard list as I have yet to see a use for the front
dewclaws. In my SP they are removed & it makes for a cleaner front. I can't
recall on my Cresties but am going to check tonight..my recollection ( I
just clipped nails on Sunday) is they are removed. In my pet Maltese & my
Briard the front dewclaws are there. They serve no purpose that I can
determine but also have never caused a problem on either dog. I just clip
along with the rest of the toenails.
