For god's sake, yes, there is such a thing as swimmers. 20 years ago the Beagle club's
national magazine had an article on how to get swimmers up on their feet. Corgi people
have them frequently. The syndrome occurs in almost every breed.
I love Linda's statement about not caring what the book said. Breeding dogs is NOT
a science...it is best learned from a veteran breeder, not from a book. Selecting
puppies is learned from veteran breeders as well, and experience...not by attending a
lecture or buying a book or a video tape.
As for Renee's poor doggie's horrible experiences...
I feel so sorry for the poor dog...yes, I feel very sorry for Renee, too...
but she wasn't the one getting "stuck" so often....

I swear, I think sometimes the vets see us coming. Most breeders know more about
breeding and whelping than most vets do. When they know you are depending on them,
many
of them haven't the guts to tell you they are as lost as you are.
My advice to new breeders is to find an experienced breeder near you who is willing
to HELP you...lots of people will.
One last thought and then I'm going to go and play with my puppies...
Doctors (MDs) are not usually well versed in nutrition. (That's why there are
nutritionists, duh...) Why would you expect your vet to be?
