As a very small breeder in Washington state, I really have to take exception
to the concept that a pet owner shouldn't have an opinion about breeders or
their practices. Unless the rest of you are producing all show puppies, and
placing all of your pups in show homes, some of you are bound to be placing
them in pet homes. At least one of two of your puppies simply must be going
out as pets. Mine do. Of course, I know I don't have 50 years of
experience breeding cavaliers, but still....we do produce pets in every
litter, and we do sell them to pet owners. The pet owners actually
constitute the largest percentage of owners. Why should they not have an
opinion about breeding practices? Particular those, like Barb and Winnie,
who have houses filled with rescue dogs? They are the ones who are cleaning
up the messes that have been made by breeders all over the US who failed to
test, who failed to take their dogs back, and who are still out there
breeding. Rescue people, unfortunately always know where the dirty laundry
is in every breed. They are the ones who are rehoming the 3 year old with
MVD whose owner got tired of giving meds or couldn't afford them. They are
the ones who get the dogs with Hip dysplasia who can't run up and down steps
anymore and so are dumped. Why in the world would we not view their input
as valuable? Myra Savant
