I remember that day. Or perhaps a different show in Ottawa.
It was very hot and humid. Several dogs went down in the heat. There was a
huge water trough, some put the dogs in the cold water to bring them some
relief.
I do remember the Cavalier..but it was a tri dog imported from UK, very well
schooled..as I remember it the young woman had to get to her knees to hold
the dog up..it had gone into heat shock and she was so desperate for the win
(he had a good chance..was a beautiful dog) she sort of propped him up..the
judge was outraged and insisted she take the dog out of the ring. It was
horrid to witness and the handlers that I knew where as dismayed as any pet
owner. I don't remember who the young woman was..she was very attractive and
very mean.

> Many years ago when I was living in Ottawa I witnessed a very frightening
scene in the Toy Group ring. I did not have an entry that day but was
working at the show and took time to watch the Group being judged.
> A proff. handler had a black and tan in the group and was kneeling and
stacking the poor dog with it's head extended hoping to show a length of
neck which it did not have.
> It was a hot and humid day, the judge was turning to mark her book when
the poor cavalier collapsed. The dog did recover, it was termed heat
exaustion. The judge was not amused and afterwards told the handler never to
do that with a short nosed breed again. >
