Glenn,
I have been showing cavaliers for 1 year. It has been quite the eye opener. I belong to both clubs, but have a health condition, so cannot get to many of the CKCS shows, and have a handler work with one of my dogs AKC while I recover. Prior to dogs, I bred and showed Champion Pinto and Paint sporthorses, primarily for Dressage. So movement is a big pet peeve for me. However, it is very hard to find a good moving Cavalier, so thank God they are a head breed. In any event, what I wanted to say is, it is also hard to find a good dog to get started with, especially in this country. I was blessed when Suze Schlenger ( thank you, Suze :)), helped connect me to Vanessa Weber after being rejected constantly by many US breeders with quality stock. However, my beautiful tri bitch from Vanessa has been criticized up and down the east coast for a " bad rear ", and " oooh, she must be ashamed to show that dog", etc. The reality is, my bitch has a right hind hock that turns out her leg slightly, and her coloring on that leg causes an illusion of a bad rear. So, for a year, I have been listening to people put my bitch down, to the point where I finally said, you know what? I believe in her...so I'm getting her hips prelimed. Well guess what? I am so very proud to announce she passed with flying colors. So, not only do I have a bitch with a fabulous pedigree, gorgeous head, intelligence, and awesome personality....but she has passed heart, eyes, hips and patellas at 1 .8 months. And, is 4 points shy of her AKC championship. My advice. Go with your gut, listen to no one you do not trust, and that does not truly cheerlead for you.Have fun. If you want to win, don't worry about the products, or perfect handling skills. If you believe in your dog, and love it, it conveys, and you will win. I know, I finished my AKC Champion Loranka's Chatterberry in 5 shows. 3 of them myself, the last 2 done by Karen. All because she is a beautiful bitch, and I adore her. She showed for me, as a result of my joy and love for her, while I made mistakes all over the place. The judges didn't notice or didn't care, they put her up anyway, inspite of me. Ignore the meanspirited comments. I know I will from here on out. God has blessed me with some beauties, and thanks to everyone who has supported me in this new endeavor. Especially Vanessa, Judy Gates, Lorraine Hughes, Karen Galipeault, Suze, and Linda Mc Cartney-Roy.
