I agree with a lot of what you've said in your post Kim. Some of the top handlers in the USA are known World-Wide... and I agree that they do appear to have the edge over many owner/handlers...unfortunately this sometimes means that it's not always the best dog that wins...and IMO that is a sad but well know fact. However....the owner of the Best of Breed winning CKCS at the much quoted 'Progressive', is also very well known to most Cavalier enthusiasts throughout the world. She is an excellent handler, and certainly doesn't NEED a pro-handler to get her dogs titled. But as the mother of a young child, she cant always get to some of the more prestigious AKC shows...and this was one such case. For those who are interested in a more complete picture...the close family friend who handled Karin's dog at the Progressive, owns three or four cockers, has no children to care for, and lives close enough to help Karin out when she needs to do 'family things' with her young daughter. In fact, as many of you will be aware, Karin is much better known in the dog fraternity than the friend who kindly handled for her....and for some (and I dont mean you Kim) to insinuate that the dog had an advantage over owner/handled dogs, is highly amusing to say the least. Yes there were some VERY well known owner/handlers and pro/handlers in the cavalier ring on the day...but as his breeder, I'm proud to say that CKCS & AKC Ch.Telvara Incognito won WITHOUT the 'advantage' of his well known owner being in the ring. Just another way of looking at it.... Incidentally ...there has been no advertising campaign in the dog magazines, and Benji lives full time in Nebraska with his owner Karin Ostmann... So you see Kim...when you write: > Come on folks-if >you >can't/won't handle yourselves, have a friend/the breeder/even me, It would still not satisfy some... especially if you won with your friends dog. You will always find people that are looking for an ulterior motive as to why a certain dog beat theirs. They would swear that the judge was your best friend...and THAT'S why you did so well. It's so sad when an 'obscure reason' has to be found as to why a judge has preferred someone else's dog... Some exhibitors find it hard to accept that maybe...and I repeat, just MAYBE the judge liked the other dog better on the day..... Now there's a novel idea!! LOL Veronica, at Telvara..
