Carol,
After all this time as a list-member, I have become accustomed to
occasionally hearing about Dinah (and previously, Savannah). I am so sad to
hear that Dinah is no longer with you - and us-- and is now at the Rainbow
Bridge... There is no doubt you did the right thing, Carol. When I
realized that my last dog (in decline for 3 years) needed to be helped to
go, it was after his gradual decline changed -- to a plummet over a couple
of days. My decision to have him given that final injection was truly
excruciating. The only thing that made me complete that phone call to the
vet was knowing in my heart that this was what *he* needed, and that not
doing so would mean I was putting my own pain ahead of him. There is no
doubt that your decision was made out of love. I have no doubt Dinah knows
this, and I hope your knowing this too will help you get through this
painful time. In time, remembering her will bring not only tears but the
smiles she loved to see. I wish you comfort.
