Hi, Pam,
"Traditions" are a funny thing. I am not talking about breed standard
here, but as you say "traditions". Take, for example, the "tradition"
of putting the lead around one's shoulders when a dog is on the table.
Most of us do that now. I'm told that it was started by a man who
showed with one arm.........for him it was a necessary thing. He won
doing that and others imitated him. So..................? We should
now all show that way? It works for some of us, some of the time. (For
me it works sometimes and not others; I do it when it feels right for
that particular exhibit). It is NOT more than a method; it is not a
rule. I see this in the same way. Now, this kneeling on one knee may
work for Taffe. (Or it may have not worked and it may have just been
the formal wear last night) But she did this. Now, others may imitate
it because of that. I KNOW it won't work for me. I'm NOT Taffe. <G>
However, I don't find it offensive or in any way reflecting on breed
standard either in a positive or negative way. So long as she didn't
"pose" or hard stack the Cavalier, it was shown naturally.
I do think she did us great credit both last night and in the past
years.
