I think that it is often hard to keep a bitch in the kind of coat that she needs to compete in the BOB arena. Dogs are less likely to be in season and miss a show or two and less likely to blow their coats on a fairly regular basis. Even though there is no rule in AKC against showing a bitch in season, I simply wouldn't do it. What a thing to do to the dogs who are competing. Maybe that is one reason why someone might choose not to special a bitch. Myra Savant
