There are several very well known dogs that reproduce their smudge in their children. So my answer would be yes. As far as keeping a dog with a smudge and how a judge would see it. Guess that depends on how much you like the dog or how good the rest of the dog is. Personally I find it distracting, but I might be alone on this. I own a beautiful little girl that is not marked the best in the face and for me she will never be a show dog.
