Some years, ok a long time ago, I was sat ringside for BIS, a white
standard poodle entered and his handler gave the impression that he had
the big win all sewn up. The judge thrust his hands into the coat and
pulled them out pulling a face and indicating how sticky his hands were.
No wonder, there must have been several cans of hair spray in the coat.
The dog did not go best, though he was of superb quality, to all at
ringside the judge indicated because of foreign substance in the coat he
would not consider the dog even though he was a great example of the
breed. Before you ask, the judge was Emil Klinckhart (sp), I always
found him very intimidating to show under, but always supported him with
an entry whenever I could. He was always, in the most respectful and
affectionate way, known as Colonel Klink. I don't know if he is still
around and judging, but I wish there were a lot more like him.
