I am on the fence when it comes to debarking. It is an option I would resist at all cost. I can't speak for everyone and all situations. I do think the suggestion of rehoming a barking dog to a home where it can't bother neighbors is similar to the ads in the paper saying a dog needs a good home on a ranch or farm. There are fewer and fewer homes like this and they already have everyone's barking and behavior problems.
A friend of mine has a little gadget that emits a sound uncomfortable to the dogs that we can't hear. It has worked quite well with her dogs-all Aussies-herding dogs-who do like to hear themselves bark-or think everyone else does. Unfortunately, she got this a number of years ago, so it may take some research to see if something like this is still available.
