"growth hormones" in meat byproduct-meal-based cattle feeds might well have
an "effect".  Certain commercial dog/pet foods have traces of this growth
hormone residue also. And meats and meat by-products from your USA
supermarket have this same growth hormone residue in them whether these are
fed cooked or raw.

I can't say that this does or does not have an effect on the mature height
of a dog, or anything else, but I'd want to look at an extended pedigree
(over three generations) before I ruled out genetics.  After all, if you
grew an inch, that height increase in a Cavalier might be proportionally
very much less.
