A good friend of ours who used to breed Shelties in the east came over to
see our Robbie once when he was about 6 months old. She saw him gaiting
across the yard and when she came in to the house, She said..."I saw your
new boy. He moves like silk." I can see that it is pleasing....the top
line stays level and the tail flows out beautifully behind, but I can't say
WHY he moves well, I can just see it. Judges see it too, and the one who
gave him his group four placement over the weekend commented on his lovely
rear and what a beautiful mover he is. Sometimes I can see a dog that moves
"funny". I can see it in the ring, but I am not yet able to tell exactly
what is wrong with the dog. With one exception. Those short upper arms
cause a peculiar paddling sort of a gait. That I can see. Myra
