Sheena and Susan, I have heard of using the Clorox (or grape seed extract) to purify food. Look at what a tiny an amount it takes - 1/2 t. to a gal of water. There is still chlorinated drinking water in a lot of public water systems.
In The Natural Remedy Book for Dogs and Cats, by Diane Stein, it suggests "marinating" raw poultry for one hour in a tablespoon of three percent food-grade hydrogen peroxide or four drops of grapefruit seed extract liquid concentrate mixed with six ounces of pure water. It says to soak meat or chicken for an hour in the refrigerator to kill harmful bacteria. I think I would then rinse with cold water.
