Hi Pat, I am days behind in email, but happened to see your post regarding Australian Shepherds and their dual registry. The latest and greatest with the two registries is the goal of establishing one breed standard. I think it is wonderful. ASCA has formed a committee to work on this and have asked for membership input. I can't say what USASA is doing with their part. I register both, show both, breed both but am not a member of USASA (AKC), just never got around to it. ASCA realizes AKC registration is here to stay and like they say, "if you can't beat them, join them!" I do believe there is still strife between the two rescue organizations which is a shame because it is the dogs who suffer because of the silly people.
The recent discussion (or at least recent to me) on breeding for pretty heads, sound structure or both really applies to all breeds-not just "head" breeds. The Aussie has long been bred for brains and structure to do a job. As of late, I have seen a trend toward the ugliest heads I have ever seen in the breed. This has strengthened my belief that all aspects of a breed must be considered, not just movement, head, temperment, brains etc. Health goes without saying.
