> Kim I would say the problem is that someone different read the X ray. I
sent in hip x-rays of a dog and he did not pass and my vet was furious
because she knew they looked just fine. This was back when they returned the
x ray to the vet. She resubmitted the same x ray and the same dog got a
rating of good.<

All the vets I have been to over the years have suggested that it often
depends what side of the bed the OFA vets got out of. but I do believe the
quality of the xray plays a large part in the grading as well. The vet who
does my dogs hips is a golden breeder. She is spot on with reading the
xrays. Every single dog I have taken to her she has read as Good and they
have come back as Good, however, I took a ten year old in and the vet was so
excited at seeing such an old boys hips in such good condition that she
called the other vets in to look. She said they were excellent. When she
submitted the xrays they got lost in the mail. When I took the dog back to
have them xrayed again (she hadn't kept a copy) it was an apprentice vet who
took them. They were not good xrays as he was tilted but she didn't want to
do them again as she kept telling me "but they'll pass". This young vet is
also a golden breeder and I guess a pass no matter the grade she felt was
good enough. Well, sure enough, they came back as fair. I was disappointed
and would have had them done again but he is eleven now and I know what his
hips looked like plus he is still springing to the top of his six foot run
from a standstill. I only do the xrays for my knowledge so I'll stick with
what I have but it's a shame that the second xrays were not of good quality.
I paid the same to <g>.
