Phyllis, I have a friend who has a Boston Terrier with a pacemaker. She took him to my cardiologist at Purdue who then referred her to a cardiologist in Ohio. The surgery was performed at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati. That particular cardiologist was skilled at pacemaker implantation. They flew an anesthesiologist in from the West Coast who was proficient in giving anesthesia to the smaller, shorter nosed dog. My friend who is a nurse spared no expense. Max is doing well with his pacemaker. We save all working pacemakers in good condition when removed from our patients. I believe they are given back to the respective company who donates them to Vet schools.
