I was just listening to a public radio speaker in the car on the way home
from Krispie Kream:). The speaker was discussing evidence that the effects of
chemicals on the eggs prior to fertilization are becoming clear and that the
chemicals the mother is exposed to prior to, including and after are being
evaluated and some of the things she was discussing brought me back to the
rough coat thing. This speaker said that exposure to mercury in fish, smoke
of any kind including wood burning fire, cigarette and a host of others
definitely has an effect on the eggs, the fetus and the new born. Now if all
this is true for humans it must also be true for our dogs. My theory may not
hold any water at all but my thoughts went to how often during a show do we
stay at hotels with nice lawns? How did they get those nice lawns? Did it
effect the future litters? They also were stating that fumes from gas can
affect sperm. It was linked to birth defects among males who worked in the
fuel industry. What happens when we fill the old RV while our champion males
are right at the window inhaling all that stuff. Her next subject was breast
feeding and how if can be linked to a higher IQ with sustained feeding
(recommends 9-12 months) and the allergies, cancer and obesity factors are
also being linked to breast feeding. Now being a cavalier person, I applied
this to the dogs of course and wonder why we feel we have to stop the pups
from nursing and get them on food right away? Shouldn't we be waiting for the
pup to stop nursing and want the food instead? Hum, makes a person wonder
doesn't it?
