If there is an infection from the umbilical cord, the vet ought to be giving
you amoxi drops and you should add in just a tiny bit of live culture yogurt
to replace what the amoxi will strip out.  If a pup is early, their clotting
factors are frequently not in place yet, and even a few sneezes can damage
the small vessels in the lung.  Keep clotting factor in your freezer and if
litters appear to be early, you can tube them one cc each, and head off a
lot of problems with bleeding.  The plasma also is rich in antibodies for
canine diseases.  Myra
