Certainly the virus's that affect dogs can take that long, because of the incubation period, but infections that enter from the open area at the umbilical cord would not be expected to take that long to manifest themselves. You would see a more rapid onset of symptoms at the site..redness, drainage, odor, heat, or small area of things that have the appearance of a 'whitehead'. When you have gotten a splinter or something in your finger, how long has it taken for it to show signs and symptoms of infection? Certainly not two weeks. Myra
