Many years ago when I first started feeding my dogs raw foods--before I added
meat--I incorporated (as Martha says) raw shopped vegetables and cottage
cheese into their kibble. One of my 1 1/2 year old Norfolks who was used to
raw foods choked on a quarter sized piece of cauliflower. I was standing
right there at the sink. Nothing I did worked. She was foaming at the mouth
and trying to breath and cough at the same time. Luckily my vet was only
around the corner. He got the piece of food out but the worse part was she
had asperated the food into her lungs. It was touch and go for two days as he
fought her asperated pneumonia. So because of that and because the experts
say that unpulvarized vegetables are of no nutritional benefit to dogs, I
give only crushed veggies. It was just too scary.
