Hi...I'm the typical "lurker" for quite some time and haven't posted
before...but, just had to on this subject. I am heavily involved in therapy
dog training for hospital work and socializing, and would not tolerate this
type of behavior from any dog be it therapy dog in training or sit-at-home
pet..a Cavalier, a Chihuahua, or any breed. This type of problem does not
get better with time, and I've seen it turn into other problems...one comes
to mind with a Basenji, who also was a re-home.

We always politely advise owners to invest in their pups training by
enlisting the use of a good trainer who uses positive motivating training
techniques. And NOW is the time to do it... Pay the money...invest...and
have that trainer come to the house and see the dog's behavior in action,--
on site... PLUS see what the humans do in response (that's the biggy). They
get an objective opinion from someone who is experienced with this type of
behavior, and who can properly train the owners how to handle....and that
includes all family members so there is consistancy in training. And, yes,
it just might require more than one visit...plus, some group obedience
classes... a lot of bonding takes place in obedience classes simply by
owner/dog working together, in addition to respect for "who's running the
show", etc.....
Only good can come from obedience and behavior training, and having a
trainer as an advisor.....plus, it can be a heck of a lot of fun and
rewarding as they see their dog positively progress.
